Request an AppointmentNorth Iowa Eye Clinic was founded in 1976 by Drs. Harry Alcorn, Addison Brown, and Michael Long. They wanted to create a center where North Iowans could receive state of the art care right in their community.
As our clinic has continued to expand, we've focused on providing up to date diagnostics and treatments to keep up with the latest technological trends. No matter how advanced our service becomes, we strive to provide professional, personalized care. We are constantly on the lookout to find new technologies that will benefit our patients and keep them seeing clearly.
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Riley is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Biology. He received his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004 and completed his Ophthalmology Residency at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in June 2008.
He joined the North Iowa Eye Clinic in July 2008, where he continues to see patients in Mason City and Osage. Dr. Riley is board certified in ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. He has also served on the council for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the advisory board for the Iowa Department of Transportation.
He and his wife Renee have been married since 1999 and have two sons (Emmett and Reed). Dr. Riley’s interests include ice hockey, traveling and Nebraska Cornhusker football.
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Melissa Summerfield grew up in Clinton, IA. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Luther College in Decorah, IA. She continued her education by receiving her masters in psychology from University of Northern Iowa and her medical degree from Creighton University. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She joined the North Iowa Eye Clinic in 2011.
Melissa decided to specialize in ophthalmology because of the long term relationships she is able to develop with her patients and her ability to restore people’s vision with surgery. She also appreciates that technology in the field is constantly changing and evolving. She enjoys the opportunity to continue to learn and develop new skills.
She and her husband, Doug Summerfield (an ICU doctor at MercyOne), have two children. She enjoys watching her kids play soccer, photography, and being curious. She loves getting outdoors in beautiful North Iowa when the weather is cooperative.
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Carter was born and raised in Utah. He attended the University of Utah where he obtained his undergraduate degree. He received his medical degree form Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in June 2011 and completed his Ophthalmology residency at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in June 2015.
Dr. Carter and his wife, Holli, have been married since 2003 and have four children. He enjoys athletics, weight lifting, food and spending time with family.
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Turner grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where he obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah in Exercise Physiology. He received his medical degree in 2017 from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed his Ophthalmology residency in June of 2021 at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He married his wife Lindsey in 2010 and together they enjoy raising their three children. Dr. Turner’s interests include hobby farming, cooking and baking, fishing and spending time in the outdoors with his family.
Clinic Administrator
Susan Kline, C.P.A. is a native of Mason City. She graduated from NIACC and Buena Vista with a B.S. degree in Accounting and practiced in public accounting for 17 years prior to joining the North Iowa Eye Clinic in 2003.
Susan and her husband D.J have two children, Chloe, and Carter. Her hobbies include running, reading and shopping.
